Heavy Advanced Braking Systems Course

Date(s): January 27, 2021 - January 28, 2021

Time: 8:00 AM EST - 4:00 PM EST

Course Objective:

Enable the in-service heavy vehicle technician to service, repair, maintain and diagnose major types of heavy vehicle brake systems;
Introduce heavy vehicle brake system theory, operation, and inspection to the in- service technician;
Define, generically, the various types of braking systems; and Convey to the technician the importance of proper brake servicing.

The two-day course will include training in:

All aspects of a heavy duty brake • system
All modules, including ABS module • and ABS training
Factors which control vehicle stopping
Brake regulations
Braking system types
Air brakes
Air valves
Construction of foundation brakes
Brake actuating mechanisms

Certification in Brake Repair is provided upon successful completion of the course.

Additional Information:
Lunch will be provided both days.
Registration deadline is January 20, 2021. Class size is limited to 10 people.
Safety precautions to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 will be practiced and enforced.

Human Resources & Payroll Protection Act Update

Part 1: Updating your Employee Handbook (10:00 – 10:45 am)
This will be our chance to take a breath and review all that’s happened in 2020 and what we expect to happen in 2021. If you are planning on updating your handbook in early 2021, this program will cover all you need to consider.

Frank Kerbein is a graduate of Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, has more than 30 years of experience in human resource administration and is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Society for Human Resource Management. He has held senior human resource management positions in large organizations and not-for-profits and has been a frequent presenter of human resource topics across the state and nationally.

Part 2: Reviewing the PPP (10:45 – 11:30 am)
The Small Business Administration will provide an overview of recent updates to the Paycheck Protection Program as well as other COVID relief efforts.

Dan Rickman joined SBA and the Syracuse District in 2013 as an Economic Development Specialist and most recently served as Branch Manager, supervising the Albany and Elmira offices in the district. As Deputy District Director, Rickman’s duties will include supervising district staff and assisting the District Director in overseeing the delivery of SBA programs and services in the 34 counties of Upstate NY served by the district. Rickman will continue to work with community leaders, lenders, and small business stakeholders to optimize the positive impacts and contributions that SBA’s programs make to the growth of small businesses and the economy in Upstate.
